Given the option, Julian decides to fight with France against Russia. He endures the desperate retreat from Moscow, fighting for survival against the Russians and the bitter cold, and rescues a young Russian countess along the way. From Nantes to Moscow to St. Petersburg, Julian's courage earns him great distinction and the Cross of the Legion of Honor.
