The Tiger of
Mysore, A Story of the War with Tippoo Saib by G. A. Henty - book
ILLUSTRATED
Of the many
stories that came out of the British occupation of India, few are as dramatic
as the conflict between the Brits and the Sultan of Mysore, Tipoo Sahib, who
owned a model of a tiger tearing into a redcoat. Sahib was known to lead
stealthy campaigns in areas devoid of British military protection, always
keeping one step ahead of the beleaguered imperialists. However, Sir Richard
and Sir Arthur Wellesley extinguished the raging flames of his terrorization
in 1799 with their siege of his capitol.
In The Tiger of Mysore, Dick Holland, journeys to India from England, thinking
that his father is a prisoner of the great Sultan. He encounters adventure on
the path to his father, as the plight of a royal-born slave girl complicates
his task. Dick risks imprisonment and death attempting to orchestrate a
three-way escape from the tyrant’s evil clutches.
