Britain put Sir Arthur Wellesley in charge of the peninsular campaign to drive Napoleon out of Spain and Portugal in 1809. By 1810, Wellesley had been named Duke of Wellington after having led the Brits to victory at Talavera, and continued to command the forces until the war ended in 1814.
Terrence O’Connor, the Irish hero of With Moore at Corunna, leads a British contingent as a colonel into battle at Talavera. Capture by the French only delays Terrence from reuniting with his friends in the Portuguese resistance, protecting Spanish families, and fighting in more battles. The Battle of Salamanca proves to be the toughest yet for brave Terrence, as he makes a major sacrifice for the good of England.
