In The Seven Years' War, Prussia - a small and embattled kingdom - fought off the combined forces of Russia, Austria, and France for seven years. Their success was due largely to the military genius of Frederick the Great. In this novel, we meet young Fergus Drummond, who has entered Frederick's service. Through circumstance and adventure, Fergus rises to the rank of colonel, distinguishing himself in battle and rendering unexpected service to the king. Yet Fergus' many struggles include capture and imprisonment in Austrian fortresses, and his fate hangs in the balance.
