CHESTER COUNTY Post Card Album: 1900 - 1930, Volume 1


Polyglot, in cooperation with the Book Barn, is republishing the first volume of the Chester County Post Card Album.  The Album contains 529 original color and black & white postcards of Chester County from 1900-1930.  Each has been digitally restored, and the Hardbound book will be available in Spring 2008.

The Old Gulph Mill stood in ruins when this Tuck card was made in 1910. The Mill was erected in 1747. #215

Knox's Covered Bridge was erected in 1865 and has suffered damage twice in the last twenty five years. The bridge was repaired and still stands today.#216

The engines in 1910 were fueled by coal, and the Pennsylvania Railroad had coal shutes located near Thorndale. #288

The Whitford Lodge, erected in 1788, is located in the Chester Valley, east of Downingtown.#330
 

The old Spinning Wheel Factory is now gone.We have been unable to locate the site of this early log cabin. #334

The Kennett Square Fire Company could boast a steam pumper and a ladder truck, as shown in this post card from 1905. #362
 

The Kennett Hotel was the Headquarters of Cornwallis before the Battle of the Brandywine. The Fireman's Auditorium, with its clock tower, was the symbol of the Kennett Square Centennial in 1955. Unfortunately, both buildings are now just memories. #366
 

The Hotel Kennett, long a landmark in the center of the borough, was removed about twenty years ago. #381

The Conard and Jones Company is now the Conard and Pyle Company, known as Star Roses. #431
