Harry Walton, 14, lived with his parents and
five brothers and sisters on a ten-acre farm near Granton, New Hampshire.

small farm, and his problems intensified when their only cow died. He was
forced to buy a cow, on credit, from his miserly neighbor, Squire Green. To
help out, Harry left home to seek his fortune—in this case, $40 to pay for the
new cow.
Harry experiences the ups and downs of find a job and earning enough money to
