ILLUSTRATED A social mystery
with a most peculiar woman.
The Disagreeable Woman is a story about the
romantic inclinations of the residents of Mrs. Gray's boarding house on
Waverley Place in New York City. The story teller is a young boarder, Dr.
Fenwick who is hard-pressed financially. However, he is fortunate enough to
help a rich and generous patron, and as a result his career blossoms.
The "disagreeable woman" is a Miss Jane Blagden, so-called by the other
boarders because of her sharp tongue. Another resident of the boarding house
is Mrs. Wyman, a widow in her thirties who is desperately searching for a
husband. From the many different personalities living in the house, many
stories are told and revelations made.
