Robert Frost’s mother has just remarried. When
the two newlyweds return from a short vacation, Robert discovers that his new
stepfather is after the control of his mother's assets. As Robert's home life
deteriorates further, he decides to leave home and go to Chicago. On the
train to Chicago, Robert meets Dick Marden, a prosperous gold miner, traveling
east from the mines. Taking a likening to Robert, Dick Marden helps Robert get
a job in a Chicago ticket office. Unfortunately, the ticket office building
burns to the ground and Robert is out of work. Robert struggles to find
happiness with his family again, while at the same time, he must find a new
job so that he may prosper and not suffer.
