Frank Hunter, 15, lives in rural Shelby, New York with his widowed mother. When a Mr. Craven, comes to town and talks Frank's mother into marrying him, Frank suspects Craven was a smooth-talking fortune hunter bent on getting control of his mother's $60,000 estate. But he has no idea of the desperate measures Craven is willing to take. Craven travels to New York City to borrow $350 from a loan shark for the wedding, promising to pay him $600 within 90 days. After the wedding, Craven is foiled in his attempts to poison then shoot Frank's dog, who had once bit him. Craven then pays Colonel Sharpley $10,000 to murder Frank in Europe. In London, Frank discovers that Craven had deserted his London wife and two children three years earlier. In Switzerland, Sharpley pushes Frank off a cliff to almost certain death. Frank survives the fall and makes his way home, to find Craven attempting to commit his mother to an insane asylum. Frank must save his mother and bring justice to Sharply before he can remedy his own life’s troubles.
