Left an orphan by the deaths of his parents,
Walter Griffith now lives with Deacon Tower and his wife. Walter is unhappy
there and decides to go to New York City. Walter first stays in the home of a
friendly newsboy, and then, when his finances run low, he sleeps at the
Newsboys' Lodging House. He becomes a salesman of wallets and sundry at a
sidewalk stand. When one day opportunity knocks for Walter, he takes the
offer. Yet, Walter must still overcome some obstacles before he can have true
happiness.
